The hardest working appliance in your kitchen.
A garbage disposal gets used daily and thought about never, right up until it hums, jams, or leaks. We install, repair, and replace disposals across Milford, Novi, and Farmington Hills, usually in a single visit.
What we handle
Installation. Repair. Honest advice.
Most disposal calls are solved in one visit. Some shouldn't cost you a visit at all, and we'll tell you that on the phone.
New installation and upgrades
Whether you're adding a disposal to a sink that's never had one or upgrading a builder grade unit that sounds like a rock tumbler, we handle the mounting, the wiring connection, the dishwasher tie in, and the drain work. We'll size the motor to how your kitchen actually cooks. A family that cooks every night deserves better than a half horsepower unit from the bargain shelf.
Repair, all brands and models
Jammed flywheels, tripped resets, leaking sink flanges, worn splash guards, units that hum without grinding. We diagnose all of it, carry the common parts, and fix what's fixable on the spot. If your problem has a 30 second fix, like the reset button or a hex key turn, we'll walk you through it on the phone for free. That's not lost business to us. That's why people call us first for the jobs that matter.
Replacement, when it's earned
Disposals last 10 to 15 years. When one is leaking from the body, seizing regularly, or simply worn out, we'll say so plainly and show you why. Modern units are noticeably quieter, grind finer, and are gentler on your drain line, which matters more than people think. The disposal feeds the same drain that clogs.
Maintenance and prevention
The honest truth: disposals don't need much, they need to not be abused. Cold water during use, no grease, no fibrous scraps, and an occasional cleaning with ice and coarse salt. We'll leave you the full list, and it's also in our guide to what should never go down a disposal.
Worth knowing
What your disposal is trying to tell you.
- Humming, no spinning. Jammed flywheel. Often freeable with the hex key. Never put your hand in the chamber.
- Total silence. Tripped reset or breaker first. Repeated trips mean a motor or wiring fault.
- Grinding metal or rattling. Something foreign is in the chamber, or a component has worn loose. Stop using it.
- Water under the sink. Flange, hose, or body leak. The first two are cheap. The third means a new unit.
- Persistent odor. Trapped food in the splash guard or chamber walls. A proper cleaning fixes it.
Common questions
Disposal questions we hear every week.
It hums but won't spin. What's wrong?
The motor has power but the flywheel is jammed, usually by a pit, bone, or stray utensil. There's a safe way to free it yourself with the hex key that ships with most units. We wrote up the full step by step here, including when to stop and call.
How long should a disposal last?
10 to 15 years for most units. Past 10, frequent jams or leaks usually mean replacement is the smarter spend. Our repair or replace guide covers the math honestly.
What should never go down it?
Grease, coffee grounds, eggshells, potato peels, celery, pasta, rice, and bones. Cold water during and after every use. The full list and the reasons are on the blog.
It died completely. Now what?
Press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit, then check the breaker. If the reset trips again right away, stop. That points to a motor or electrical fault, and it's worth a professional look before anything else.
Can you install a disposal where there's never been one?
Usually, yes. It needs power at the cabinet and the right drain configuration, both of which we can sort out. Call with a photo of the area under your sink and we'll give you a quick read on what's involved.
